New Lambda DC-DC converters are ideal for powering on-train railway applications

Lambda has introduced three new DC-DC converters that are particularly suited to on-train railway applications. Designers working on railway rolling-stock projects will find that the PH75F110-5/100, PH150S110-24/100, and PH300F110-24/100 are perfect for powering LED information displays found in carriages, automatic doors, train air conditioning controllers and braking system controllers.

The new single output modules are part of Lambda’s comprehensive PH series that offers power ratings from 60 to 600W and outputs from 2 to 48V. Besides railway applications the new converters are also ideal for a wide range of distributed power architecture designs. Providing high efficiency and high reliability, the new DC-DC modules feature a power good signal, auxiliary functions and parallel function with current sharing (the PH300S with an external circuit), making them suitable for N + 1 applications.

All three modules have an input voltage range of 66 to 160V DC. The PH75F110-5/100, with a nominal output power rating of 75W, has a 5V output voltage, adjustable over a very wide -60% +20% range, and a 15A maximum output current. The 151W rated PH150S110-24/100 has a 24V nominal output voltage, adjustable –10% +10% (at 100V DC input), and a 6.3A max output current. Finally, the PH300F110-24/100, delivering 302W nominal, features an output voltage of 24V, adjustable –60% +20%, and a maximum output current of 12.6A.

All three new units are compact, high power density modules with a common height and depth of 12.7 x 86mm. Module widths vary as follows: the PH75F110-5/100 is 62mm, the PH150S110-24/100 is 72mm, and the largest, the PH300F110-24/100, is 146mm. Weights are 150, 150 and 250g respectively.

Over-current protection is from 105 to 140% and over-voltage protection is from 125 to 145%. The conduction-cooled converters have an operating temperature range of -- 20 to +85ºC (baseplate temperature) and operating humidity of 30 to 95% RH.
