Understanding the application and the environment in which it operates is essential for good power supply design; at this year’s Southern Electronics & Manufacturing Show world-leading power supply manufacturer TDK-Lambda UK will launch many new and innovative products that address the specific needs of the medical, industrial, broadcast, telecoms, test & measurement and factory automation markets.
Among the many power supplies to be highlighted during the show is the GWS series of ‘green’ power supplies that complies with the energy saving requirements of Energy Star and the ErP (Energy related Products) Directive by having a standby power consumption that remains below 0.5W. Rated at 250W, the GWS250 AC-DC power supply is offered in four models with nominal output 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V. With a compact footprint and 1U height, this innovatively designed power supply is a convection cooled product that fits into space previously requiring fan-cooled products. Since the GWS250 is without a fan it is well-suited for applications requiring low audible noise levels, or in equipment where long life would be a critical design factor for applications such as those found in remote or dusty environments. The efficiency curve for the GWS250 is very flat, averaging 93% from 25 to 100% load, which ensures optimum operation under all load conditions.
With the introduction of the ZWS-BAF series of PCB-type AC-DC power supplies, TDK-Lambda has effectively improved the total performance of its previous generation ZWS-AF series. The improved heat dissipation of the new ZWS-BAF series provides a wider operating temperature range of -10 to +70°C and efficiency of the ZWS150BAF-24 model reaches up to 90%.. Offering advanced features such as active power factor correction and high input transient protection, the 100W ZWS100BAF and 150W ZWS150BAF series operate from a universal input of 85 to 265Vac or 120-370Vdc to meet a wide range of applications, including factory automation, test & measurement and LED signage. Offered with a choice of output voltages from 3.3V to 48V, each model in the ZWS-BAF series can be adjusted by up to ±10% of its nominal voltage to accommodate non-standard system voltages.
Upping the output power of its ZPSA series of compact PCB-mountable AC-DC power supplies, TDK-Lambda’s ZPSA100 accepts a wide input voltage range, has a very low profile (26.6mm) and industry standard footprint (127 x 76.2mm0. An ideal choice for applications such as LED signage and lighting, point-of-sale equipment, datacom, video/audio routers and test & measurement equipment, these100-Watt supplies are available with the most popular single output voltages from 5V to 48Vdc. Offering a typical efficiency of up to 90%, these models are well-suited for operation in both convection or customer air cooled environments from 0°C up to 70°C, with appropriate derating.
Throughout the exhibition, experts from TDK-Lambda UK will be on hand to provide advice and guidance on selecting power supply solutions for your own specific applications, with the emphasis on combining efficiency with versatility and durability.
