Lambda UK, the world’s leading manufacturer of configurable power supplies, has announced an 18% increase in orders from the European market for the year ended 31st March 2003 despite an overall power supply market contraction of 15%. One of the key reasons why the company is performing so well is Vega, its latest generation of configurable AC-DC power supplies. Demand for Vega has rocketed and in order to meet this massive increase in demand Lambda is to invest a further £600K in the Vega production line at its Ilfracombe manufacturing plant.
"Vega is the fastest growing Lambda UK product ever," said Martin Southam Lambda’s European Marketing Director. "It is only two years since the first customer samples were shipped and already Vega is outselling our highly successful Alpha series. In order to stay ahead of customer demand we have ordered additional ATE, optical inspection and HASS equipment. Good news for local employment is that we’ve had to increase the shift pattern and now added a nightshift!"
"Just looking at current design wins that have not yet reached full production tells us that we need to quadruple our capacity over the next 18-24 months," added Southam. "Market lead-time expectations for volume orders of configurable products, such as Vega, are continuously reducing. The significant investment we are making in our UK plant shows that we are committed to maintaining our market leadership as well as continuing our famous ‘Same Day’ build service for samples and pre-production orders."
Vega is being particularly successful in market areas such as medical, lifesciences, factory automation and test and measurement, and success is not limited to the UK. Vega is in great demand throughout the rest of Europe, North America, Asia and Japan. In the US two Value Added Resellers, Reptron and Avnet IP&E, are providing North American customers with a fast local response. In Japan Lambda has set up a second Vega production line, mirroring the one in Ilfracombe, and first units for the local market are now being produced.
The innovative Vega range of configurable power supplies is available in 450W and 650W ratings. It’s inherent flexibility lies in its high degree of user configurability. As well as the wide choice of output modules there is also a large number of customer options. Lambda recently introduced the Vega SmartPlus. The world’s most advanced configurable power supply, it’s customer-configurable ‘firmware’ allows users to monitor and adjust a wide range of parameters and functions including output voltage and current limit, sequencing, status signals for module good and fan speed, operating hours and serial numbers.
