Power+ Design Engineer

Location : Ilfracombe

TDK-Lambda UK Ltd is a successful and long established design and manufacturing company of standard and configurable AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies situated on the pleasant North Devon Coast. We are entering an exciting period of change and expansion with ambitious plans for the manufacturing facility.

A vacancy has arisen within the Research and Development Department as a Power+ Design Engineer. 

The scope of the role is to design and develop bespoke or modified standard power supplies according to customer requirements; identifying and applying appropriate level of technology or identifying where group products can be utilised to provide the optimal solution that delivers competitive products in an agreed timescale, to cost and performance requirement of customer with a “Right First Time” mind-set.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To design and develop power supply solutions using appropriate technology to meet the customer specification.
  • Ability to create and write a technical specification, occasionally in conjunction with customer, where none or insufficient specifications exist.
  • Be a mentor and provide technical support to the junior members of the team.
  • Prepare and provide detailed replies to RFQ’s for non-catalogue requests (NCR) listing estimated product costs and development costs.
  • Participate in customer conference calls and attend customer meetings.
  • Where appropriate write up and distribute project team meeting or customer meeting minutes having attended meeting or conference call incorporating any received written or email minutes from other attendees.

Experience, knowledge, qualifications and skills:

  • Ideally have several years’ experience of development of power supplies for volume production.
  • Have the potential to learn best practise for planning, organising of own work and that of the team.
  • Have an ability to understand costs of product, development, overheads and margins.
  • Have good communication skills and a professional appearance which are essential for this occasional customer facing role.
  • Be familiar with key power supply technologies, techniques.
  • Qualifications should include a good degree in Electrical Engineering.

Hours of work:

  • Monday to Thursday 7.45 am – 4.30 pm.
  • Friday 7.45 – 12:15
  • Note: flexi-time can be considered on application

Salary: £36,000 - £49,000 (DoE) - competitive relocation packages are available.

In return the company offers excellent conditions of employment, 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays per annum, additional 1 days holiday at 10 years service and again at 15 years service, Company Sick Pay Scheme, free Life Assurance and Pension contributions above the statutory minimum (Employee 3.25%, Company 4.75%) and Flexi-time (1 hour either side of start and finish time).
