PARALYMPIANS’ BLOG - Claire Cashmore

Posted : 08 Sep 2008

We arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon and got to the village in the early evening. Entering the village was like entering a different world the "dream world." It was so exciting.

Soon after we arrived we went to dinner, the dining hall is huge it is the size of two football pitches. There is lots of choice ranging from Indian, Italian to MacDonalds. It is surprising to see lots of athletes eating Big Macs at this stage!!

That evening we decorated our apartments and rooms with pictures and good luck messages to make it more homely.

On Wednesday we went to the water cube for the first time and it is incredible. We approached the cube on the Paralympic bus and it looked really small however as I stood outside I realised how big it really was. As we looked down at the pool from the stands it was breathtaking. The pool seats seventeen thousand people and apparently it is fully booked for the duration of the meet this definitely gave me butterflies! The pool feels so good and I can't wait to start racing. The pool looks fantastic at night as it changes colour.

There is such a good buzz in the village, it is such a great feeling to be surrounded by some of the fastest people in the world.

After training we had some time to explore the village but we still haven't seen everything. It has been designed so well and every little detail perfected.
