Lambda, the power supply specialists, has extended its range of non-isolated DC-DC converters by adding 5, 16 and 20A models. Available in compact single-in-line or surface mount packages the PL-Series is aimed at point-of-load applications, providing power to the very latest FPGAs, ASICs and microcontrollers found in equipment using distributed power architectures such as communications equipment, workstations and servers. The converters will also find applications in industrial electronics, test equipment, broadcast systems and mobile and handheld equipment.
The output voltage is set by an external fixed resistor allowing the designer to configure the PL-Series to any voltage between 0.75 and 5.0V, depending on the model chosen. The series has built-in current limit and short-circuit protection, as well as over temperature protection, and offers efficiencies up to 95%. Remote on/off is provided as standard as is a positive remote sense pin (on 10A models and above).
Nominal 5V or 12V input ranges are available, or alternatively a wide range input version (6 to 14V) can be specified for 10, 16 and 20A models. The wide range input versions have an additional sequencing function that can be used to ramp output of single or multiple modules up and down in a controlled way. If required, the output tracks the input signal until a set limit is reached; if not required the sequencing pin is tied to Vin. These models also have a Power Good option.
Operating over a wide -40º to 85ºC temperature range, the new PL-Series have UL/C and EN60950 approvals.
