New wide-range programmable output modules give Vega added flexibility

Posted : 01 Sep 2003

Lambda, the world’s number one manufacturer of configurable switch mode power supplies has expanded the line-up of output options for its industry-leading Vega series with the addition of two new wide-range programmable output modules. The new W2 and W5 modules provide designers with a programmable output of 0.25V to 7V at 30A and 0.25V to 32V at 8.5A respectively.

The new modules occupy a single slot on the Vega chassis. They offer a choice of fixed (F) or tracking (T) overvoltage protection and can be fitted with fast on or screw terminal output connectors. The modules also offer designers a choice of either resistance programming of the output, between 0 and 32kO, or voltage programming of the output, between 0 and 5V. Both programming types are available in four variants: inhibit with fixed current limit; inhibit with program current limit (0-5V); enable with fixed current limit; and enable with program current limit (0-5V).

At 0.35W/cm3 Vega has an unrivalled power density, has no minimum load requirement, low ripple of 1% and one to ten fixed or adjustable outputs that give designers a choice of output voltages up to 62V.

Vega’s inherent flexibility lies in its high degree of configurability. As well as the wide choice of output modules there are a large number of customer options. For cooling there is a choice of reverse air and quiet fan in addition to the standard forward air-cooling. The units can also be specified without a fan for customer cooling. Input connection can be made via a choice of fast-on, screw or IEC320 connectors, while filters rated for leakage currents from 1.5mA to 50µA are available. Secondary analogue options include module inhibit, module good signal and current sharing for redundancy.

The innovative Vega range of configurable power supplies is available in 450W and 650W ratings. Input voltage range is from 90 to 264V AC and 130 to 330V DC making it suitable for use worldwide. It is over voltage and over current protected, and complies with global safety approvals.
