Lambda boosts the power of its half-brick DC-DC converter to 300w

En ligne : 01 May 2003

Lambda continues to drive up the power density of its PAH family of ‘half-brick’ DC-DC power modules with the introduction of the new PAH300S48 with output voltages of 28 or 12V DC and 300W of power from a single output. The new PAH300S48 is ideal for a host of base station and telecommunication applications, computing and distributed power architectures.

With 12V emerging as an industry-standard intermediate bus voltage, the PAH300S48 is ideally suited for use in conjunction with point-of-load, non-isolated converters. Output voltage adjustment is an impressive –40 to +10% on the 12V model and –40 to +18% on the 28V power module.

The PAH300S48 has a nominal input voltage of 48V and boasts an impressive power efficiency of 90%. Such high efficiency has allowed Lambda to produce a half-brick design that is both thin and light. The PAH300S48 weighs-in at only 90 grams and combines a footprint of 58 x 61mm with a low profile of just under 13mm, bringing significant benefits to designers looking to maximise power density on their board.

Conduction cooling via the baseplate gives an operating temperature range of -40 to +100ºC. This means that the PAH300S48 is also suitable for use in applications operating under harsh conditions of low airflow and high ambient temperatures. Other features include remote control, over voltage, over current and over temperature protection. Isolation withstand voltage is: input-to-output 1.5kV DC for 1 min; input-to-baseplate 1.5kV DC; and output-to-baseplate 500V DC for 1 min.

PAH converters are CE marked in accordance with the low voltage directive and carry a range of international approvals including UL1950, EN60950 and CSA950.
