LAMBDA’S NEW NV-175 POWER SUPPLY KEEPS ITS COOL

En ligne : 20 Mar 2006

The new integral-fan version of Lambda UK’s ( www.lambda-europe.com) popular NV-175 compact multi-output power supply can deliver its full rated output power continuously, at ambient temperatures as high as 50ºC, even when there is no external source of cooling air flow.

This capability, together with the whisper-quiet operation of the temperature-controlled fan makes the new unit suited to use in medical equipment, test and measurement and other applications where a compact supply is needed, but noise levels must also be minimised.

Designed to operate from inputs in the range from 90V to 264V at 47Hz to 63Hz, Lambda’s versatile NV-175 power supplies are available with up to five outputs, covering the range 0.9V to 28V and delivering currents from 1A to 25A, depending on the output configuration.

To further enhance their versatility, both the fan and non-fan versions of models with a 12V or 24V main channel have now been upgraded to deliver 200W peak power, with a maximum average load of 180W in any five-minute period.

Use of Lambda’s patented Multi-Resonant Topology (MRT), which reduces switching losses and, therefore, the amount of heat generated, enables NV-175 power supplies to achieve an exceptionally high power density of 9.3W/in3. The overall size of the units is, therefore, just 32 x 76 x 125mm, and they can be housed in a 1U equipment tray. Weighing in at 230 grams, they are also 20% lighter than typical supplies with a similar rating.

Since the Lambda’s MRT circuitry uses soft switching techniques, the level of harmonics generated is inherently low. This translates to excellent EMC performance, and NV-175 power supplies meet both the Level B requirements of EN55022 for conducted emissions and also the requirements of the demanding EN60601 standard.
